In-Car Driving Lessons at Drive Smart Driving School – Carrollton & The Colony Locations

Attend live in-person classroom at the Carrollton location and then choose to do your in-car driving lessons at either the Carrollton or The Colony location.

During these courses, students will:

  • Complete 32 hours of required classroom instruction.
  • Receive one take-home assignment, discussed at the beginning of the course.
  • Prepare for the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Written Test during the first week, which is a crucial step toward obtaining a learner’s permit.

Students must bring:

  • A fully charged laptop or tablet for taking notes and completing exams.
  • A downloaded copy of the Texas Driver’s Handbook, available online for free download here.

What You’ll Learn

Texas law requires teens under 18 to complete:

  • 32 hours of classroom instruction
  • 14 hours of behind-the-wheel training
  • 30 additional hours of at-home driving practice with a licensed driver.

At Drive Smart, we cover all classroom requirements and make sure your teen understands the rules of the road. After passing the DPS Written Test, students can apply for their learner’s permit (restrictions apply) and begin behind-the-wheel lessons with us or at home through a parent-taught program.
