Who needs the adult course?

First-time Texas driver-license applicants ages 18–24 generally need adult driver education. Applicants age 25 and older are not required to take driver education. DPS has exceptions, including some new residents who surrender a valid out-of-state license. Use the official DPS application requirements for your situation.

If you already completed a teen driver education program, bring your course records to DPS before signing up for another course.

After the course

The course certificate is one part of the licensing process. It does not replace a DPS-issued permit or license, driving practice, the required Impact Texas Drivers program or the road test.
